Multicultural health
Western Australia is home to the largest proportion of people born overseas, making ours one of the most culturally diverse states in the nation. Around thirty per cent of the Western Australian population are born overseas.
With people from over 200 countries, speaking more than 245 languages and dialects living here, it is important to ensure that culturally appropriate health care and services are provided. This will assist people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to increase their health literacy; have access to quality health care through use of appropriate translation and interpreting services; enjoy a positive health care experience; and live healthy and active lives.
The following information will support patients and their carers who speak limited or no English, to access health services in WA.
