Creating a collaborative partnership with your child.
Real children need real experiences with real people to grow up healthy - just as they have since mankind began.
This book explores the 10 essential building blocks that help children build resilience and authentic self-esteem in our chaotic, modern world. It’s a commonsense, holistic approach that encourages connectedness, character and compassion. We can’t change the world, however we can change the choices we make for our children.
Everything has a place. Things last longer when we take care of them. Showing respect, responsibility, and stewardship are social skills that even young children can relate to...
because they have things they value. This book encourages children to pick up after themselves, put things back where they belong, and ask permission to use things that don’t belong to them. It also teaches simple environmental awareness: respecting and taking care of the earth. Includes ideas for adult-led activities and discussions. In simple words and appealing illustrations, this book teaches children about respect, responsibility and stewardship.
Your body belongs to you, and you get to set your own rules.
But you may have different rules for different people, and sometimes your rules might change. Like when you high-five your friends and kiss your kitten, but not the other way around!
Schools that have adopted the ancient principles of restorative justice in their approach to behaviour management report better relationships with young people, greater engagement...
in learning and a greater development of social and emotional competence among learners.
No surprise, then, that interest in restorative practices is growing. Its all about relationships. Wrongdoing is viewed through a relational lens. All those responsible for and affected by the behaviour are involved in solving the problem. Working in conference with a teacher/facilitator, participants come to understand the harm done to people and relationships. Accepting that such harm creates obligations and liabilities, they then focus on repairing the damage and putting things right.
Expert practitioners Margaret and David provide a thorough grounding in restorative practice, with worked examples and easy-to-follow teacher scripts to get you started. If RJ is new to you, you’ll be a convert in no time!
